Coast is Calling Travel Voucher
Coastal tourism regions impacted by the algal bloom benefited from a travel voucher program calling on South Australians to travel to coastal destinations.
The Coast is Calling Travel Voucher program has seen 50,000 vouchers for accommodation and experiences released over two rounds
The travel period included critical tourism periods, including summer, April school holidays, and long weekends.
Summer Plan Dining Cashback
The Summer Plan Dining Cashback Program was designed to support coastal hospitality businesses and seafood retailers impacted by the algal bloom.
Over summer, 300,000 Dining Cashbacks were made available to South Australians, giving lucky winners the chance to enjoy 50% cashback (up to $50) when they dined by the coast or supported South Australian seafood retailers.
The Program closed on 31 March 2026.
Algal Bloom Support Event Fund
The $750,000 Algal Bloom Event Support Fund supported existing events in metropolitan and regional coastal areas to stimulate visitation, drive economic recovery, and foster community connection.
Announced as part of the Summer Plan, grants of up to $20,000 were made available to events held from 1 December 2025 to 31 March 2026 in the same postcodes as the Coast is Calling Travel Voucher and Dining Cashback programs.
The Coast is Calling marketing campaign
The Coast is Calling Travel Voucher and Summer Plan Dining Cashback programs worked in tandem with the Coast is Calling Marketing campaign.
South Australia’s coastline has been shaped by nature, but it’s defined by the people, the experiences, and the communities that give it character.
This marketing campaign highlighted those characters while inspiring South Australians to answer the call of the coast and book their coastal trip.
Further support
The State and Federal Governments released a $102.5 million Algal Bloom Summer Plan, to help protect South Australia’s coast, back coastal communities and support the State’s summer lifestyle.
The plan, jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments, will include investment into natural environment, science, research and monitoring, and further investment in backing coastal businesses and communities.
Eligible tourism businesses could apply for $10,000 small business grants. As part of the Algal Bloom Summer Plan, a new round of industry support grants were available for eligible businesses which have already received a grant.
The plan also included an investment of $2.875 million to extend the public information campaigns through summer, focused on rebuilding confidence and driving visitation to our coastal regions and marine based tourism businesses and promoting the seafood industry and benefits of recreational fishing.
