STATE TOURISM SATELLITE ACCOUNTS
The State Tourism Satellite Account provides measures of tourism gross domestic product, tourism gross value added, tourism trade and employment in tourism.

- The strong post COVID recovery seen in 2022-23 has now slowed in the latest results of the 2023-24 State Tourism Satellite Account.
- The slowdown in 2023-24 has been due to challenging economic conditions and the rising cost of living pressures faced by travellers.
- In 2023-24 there were 41,600 direct tourism jobs in South Australia. This was a decline of 1,000 jobs compared to the previous period, however up 3,000 (from 38,600) jobs since the pre-COVID period.
- In 2023-24 there were an additional 29,900 people indirectly employed in tourism, bringing the total number of people employed in tourism to 71,500.
- Tourism contributed $4.4 billion to Gross State Product in 2023-24. This was a 1.4 per cent increase compared to 2022-23.
- In 2023-24 tourism directly contributed $3.8 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA) and an additional $4.1 billion in indirect GVA. Direct GVA increased 2.8 per cent from 2022-23.
