South Australians impacted by recent bushfires will be at the forefront of tomorrow’s Bushfire T20 Showdown at Adelaide Oval – and front and centre for the players.

The Adelaide and Port Adelaide teams will both wear the #BookThemOut logos on their playing shirts, proudly promoting the South Australian Government’s recovery campaign to support those communities affected by the fires on Kangaroo Island and in the Adelaide Hills.

The initiative ensures the #BookThemOut message will be viewed on live television coverage across South Australia, via Channel 7, as well as by the more than 30,000 crowd expected to watch the match from the stands. Two-minute and 30-second #BookThemOut TVCs will also be played throughout the match, as well as a special 30-minute feature on Kangaroo Island and Adelaide Hills on Channel 7’s SA Weekender program which will air after the match coverage, to show viewers that there is still plenty to see and do on the island. A similar 30-minute feature will air on Sunday, 9 February.

Premier Steven Marshall said South Australians have rallied behind the state’s bushfire affected communities, with support from far and wide for the #BookThemOut campaign and generous fundraising efforts for the SA Bushfire Appeal such as this T20 Showdown event.

“The #BookThemOut campaign is making a real difference to businesses in South Australia’s fire-affected communities, as people are making bookings and planning trips,” said Mr Marshall.

“The Bushfire T20 Showdown at Adelaide Oval will help get the message out to even more people across our state that Kangaroo Island and the Adelaide Hills are still must-see destinations and the best thing we can do to support them is to go there.

“The $1.1 million #BookThemOut campaign is focused on getting South Australia’s tourism sector back on its feet, and to have some of our state’s best AFL and cricket players getting on board to support that makes me incredibly proud of our community and I look forward to being there to cheer them on.”

On the day of the #BookThemOut campaign launch, the South Australian Tourism Commission’s southaustralia.com website received the highest number of domestic visits on record for a single day – a total of 31,000, which is more than 61 percent higher than at the same time last year. Since the day of the launch, there has been over 279,000 visits to southaustralia.com.

The online tourism database – which provides free listings for operators to connect them with consumers – reported that leads for Kangaroo Island increased over 150% in the week following the campaign launch (compared to the same time last year) and leads for the Adelaide Hills increased by 200% for the same period.

Since the launch of the #BookThemOut campaign, total leads to Kangaroo Island operators via the online tourism database are at over 6,000 and total leads to Adelaide Hills’ operators are at almost 8,000.

100% of net proceeds from ticketing, catering, sponsorship and all other donations for the Bushfire T20 Showdown will go to the state’s bushfire appeal.
Adelaide Oval SMA CEO Andrew Daniels said it was an honour for Adelaide Oval to host this match and contribute to such an important cause.

“We’ve had an overwhelming amount of support from the public and our event partners to make this event a reality and we’re looking forward to bringing the South Australian community together on Sunday,” said Mr Daniels.

“We’d encourage everyone to come along and fill the stadium to help us raise as much money as possible and reflect on what has been a difficult time for all those affected.”
Community donations made over recent weeks since the State Government established the SA Bushfire Appeal have started flowing directly to people who have lost their homes and livelihoods as a result of the devasting fires.
