P&O Cruises anchors in Adelaide in major economic boost for South Australia
P&O Cruises Australia is injecting more than $33 million into the South Australian economy as it offers locals a chance to holiday, without taking flight.
While based in Adelaide, P&O’s Pacific Explorer is expected to welcome over 26,000 guests across multiple cruises in February and March, and again in December.
Beyond providing a memorable, convenient, and accessible holiday option for locals, the presence of P&O Cruises is expected to inject a substantial $33m into the South Australian economy in 2024, benefitting tourism operators, food and beverage suppliers and communities across the region.
Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison said it’s great to welcome back Pacific Explorer for another successful cruise season.
"The cruise industry contributes $215 million per year to South Australia's economy, supporting over 700 local jobs and enhancing our tourism sector so there are many benefits every time a ship sails in our region,” Minister Bettison said.
P&O Cruises Australia Senior Vice President, Peter Little said P&O remains steadfast in its commitment to sourcing 100% of our food and beverages from Australia, with South Australia playing a crucial role.
"We invest nearly $4 million annually in local produce from the region. This includes pork, onions, potatoes and stone fruit," Mr Little said.
"We are thrilled to have Pacific Explorer back in Adelaide, providing locals with the opportunity to embark on a memorable holiday. It’s an exciting way to visit New Zealand and Tasmania or explore your own backyard by visiting Kangaroo Island or Port Lincoln – it’s an easy way to holiday."
Itineraries coming up in 2024 include 7-night cruises visiting Kangaroo Island, Hobart and Melbourne, 4-night Southern getaway cruises visiting Kangaroo Island and Port Lincoln, 4-night 90’s themed cruises and 3-night 80’s themed cruises, the perfect short break for those wanting a taste of what cruising is all about.
