The SATC worked with Tourism & Events Queensland to deliver the Down Under Summit in Colorado last week. I was pleased to join a range of SA tourism operators at The Summit, as we connected with leading members of the travel trade from right across North America. This multi-day event provided an opportunity to build relationships, present unique SA product, and ensure our state is top of mind among those who package and sell Australia daily.
The Down Under Summit is an important part of our work to continue to grow the high yielding North American markets of USA and Canada, which are currently worth a combined $84 million to our visitor economy with opportunities for further growth.
The Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) recently hosted Explore South Australia, a trade event helping to sell our state to key industry partners. More than 25 diverse SA operators met with tourism buyers from across the country, with attendees also having the opportunity to experience Beresford Estate, Chalk Hill Wines, and Never Never Distillery. SATC representatives provided an update to industry partners on the performance of our state's international market, the direction of the SATC, and the strength of sustainable tourism in SA.
Here’s cheers to Coopers Brewery, as the iconic SA company officially launched its ‘new home’ – a $70 million development which includes a world-class visitor centre, restaurant, bar, tasting room, microbrewery and whisky distillery. I had the opportunity to see it firsthand before it opens to the public later this month, together with government and industry stakeholders. As Australia’s largest independent family-owned brewery, the new centre is set to draw beer lovers to South Australia.
The nail-biting Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final last Saturday saw more than 9,000 fans fill the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and witness our Adelaide Thunderbirds take home the premiership title. Hosting the major sporting event was another demonstration of just how well we put on events in SA.
