The Santos Tour Down Under is Australia’s premier cycling race, and the largest Festival of Cycling in the southern hemisphere, kicking off the year in exhilarating style. This eleven-day event brings top professional cycling teams to race on the streets of Adelaide and regional South Australia each January as the opening event of the UCI WorldTour.
Up for grabs are important UCI points and the Santos Ochre Leader’s Jersey. The event also plays host to a UCI Women's 2.1-grade event (one level below Women's World Tour status), which also attracts the cream of female cycling to Adelaide.
The 2017 Santos Tour Down Under broke all previous economic impact and event-specific visitor figures, injecting $56.5 million into the South Australian economy and welcoming 43,000 cycling fans from interstate and overseas. It was enjoyed by a total of 840,000 people and created the equivalent of 683 full-time jobs.
