Nation's most liveable city parties in the East End
Adelaide is getting ready to celebrate its new ranking as Australia’s most liveable city with a winter street party in the East End.
With fire pits, live music and great South Australian food and wine, the Vardon Avenue and Ebenezer Place precinct will come alive, showcasing everything that is vibrant about the city.
Presented by the South Australian Tourism Commission with support from local vendors, the Winterpalooza East End Street Party will run from 5pm until 11pm, Friday 25 June.
Premier Steven Marshall said the event was another great reason to return to work in the CBD and support local traders.
“We live in Australia’s most liveable city – and who doesn’t enjoy a Friday night knock-off?! South Australians have done an exceptional job to get us in the position of one of the safest states in the safest country, and despite COVID-19, there are more South Australians employed now than ever before in the history of the state,” Premier Marshall said.
“South Australia is well-known as Australia’s wine state and Adelaide has moved up seven places in a global ranking to take the nation’s most liveable city.
“I encourage all CBD workers and residents, and anyone in Adelaide this weekend, to raise a glass of SA wine to our sensational city and celebrate our collective achievements over the past 12 months.
“We have a few things to celebrate – end of financial year, winter solstice, school holidays around the corner, Adelaide Cabaret Festival in full swing and just weeks until Illuminate Adelaide kicks off – so why not grab a jacket and come into the city and immerse yourself in our great laneway bars, pubs and restaurants.”
Local bars and restaurants in Vardon Avenue and Ebenezer Place will take over the streets, and live music and fire twirlers will entertain revellers as they enjoy South Australian wine, drinks and food, and cosy up next to fire pits.
Popular Vardon Avenue bar and restaurant, East End Cellars, will activate for the special street party event.
East End Cellars co-owner, Margie Andrewartha said: “We know Adelaide hums in spring and summer, so it’s fabulous that we’re now activating the city in winter. There are so many amazing experiences to be had in our city, so rug up and come in and explore, grab a bite to eat and enjoy a drink,” she said.
“The energy in the East End is incredible when the streets are flooded with people, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to Vardon on Friday.”
Longstanding East End icon, Belgian Beer Café in Ebenezer Place, will help welcome punters with paella and mulled wine.
Annie Medlen of Belgian Beer Café said they look forward to the East End warming up during winter and welcoming the extra patrons the street party brings.
“To continue the buzz on the East End through the colder nights is a fantastic initiative. We’ll be waiting with open arms, mulled wine and plenty of vibes,” she said.
The Winterpalooza East End Street Party is another event as part of the SATC’s national 2021 Year of South Australian Wine campaign. It is open to the public and free to attend.
The event will kick off the City of Adelaide’s Winter Weekends series which runs every Friday and Saturday night in Vardon Avenue and Rundle Street East from 2 July to 28 August.
