Coast is Calling South Australians to book their next holiday

Lucky South Australians who won a Coast is Calling Travel Voucher are being reminded to use it or lose it, ahead of the first booking period closing at 4pm today, Monday 19 January.

The bigger, expanded and extended round of the popular Coast is Calling Travel Voucher program allocated 30,000 travel vouchers of up to $500 for accommodation and $100 for experiences last month.

Current vouchers holders have until 4pm ACDT on Monday, 19 January to book for travel until the end of the April school holidays (26 April).

A redraw on 22 January will see unredeemed vouchers reallocated among those who were unsuccessful in the ballot held last month, giving vouchers a second life and further boosting bookings with businesses.

The voucher program will continue to generate bookings for tourism operators in areas which have been impacted by the algal bloom, with those scoring a voucher in the redraw able to book until 19 February for travel until 26 April.

Round 1 of the Coast is Calling Travel Vouchers injected an estimated $6.4 million into the visitor economies of coastal destinations impacted by the algal bloom. On average, for every $1 invested in Round 1, $4.50 was injected into the local coastal communities.

The Coast is Calling Travel Voucher Round 2 program is funded as part of the State and Federal Governments’ Algal Bloom Summer Plan, aiming to boost visitation and economic activity along the State’s coast.

Vouchers are for $100, $200, $500 (accommodation) and $100 (experience). Licence No: T25/1889.

Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison said the Coast is Calling Travel Voucher program continues to deliver on its objective, driving visitation to our algal bloom impacted areas and boosting bookings for coastal tourism operators.

"The benefits of these vouchers go well beyond their dollar value, as South Australians go on to tell their family and friends that our coastal towns have so much to offer this summer," Minister Bettison said.

"For those lucky enough to have won a voucher last month, be sure to book it by Monday 19 January – before it is reallocated to someone who missed out in the first draw.

"The redraw will give the vouchers a ‘second life’ – providing another opportunity for businesses to see a spike in bookings, while giving even more South Australians a chance to get a bit off their upcoming holiday."

The George Hotel General Manager, Peter Clark said The George Hotel is delighted to be involved in the Coast is Calling campaign.

"Across Round 1 and Round 2, we’ve welcomed more than 700 room nights directly through the program, which clearly shows the positive impact these vouchers are having on driving visitation to the region," Mr Clark said.

"The initiative has introduced new guests to our hotel and encouraged longer stays, benefiting not only our hotel but the wider local economy.

"While staying with us, guests can enjoy our boutique rooms, stunning views, and easy access to everything that Jetty Road and the wider region has to offer.

"We’re also pleased that Soda Bar and Restaurant are participating in the Dining Cashback program, giving visitors even more reason to stay, dine, and experience the best of what The George has to offer."
