China Southern Airlines return, ENTF grant recipients & more…
I’ve really enjoyed getting out across the State and visiting our tourism communities in recent weeks. The SATC Exec team has visited all 12 of our tourism regions, finishing in Kangaroo Island and Adelaide earlier this week discussing the future of our state’s visitor economy. While there are some consistent themes, some of the challenges are unique in different regions. These sessions have provided valuable insights as to how we effectively refresh our 2030 Visitor Economy Sector Plan to deliver the best outcomes for our industry. Thank you to all those who attended, your insights and time are greatly valued.
Today we welcome China Southern Airlines back to Adelaide, with the direct service between Guangzhou and Adelaide reconnecting our state to an important international tourism market and trade partner. The major international airline will offer three direct return flights per week, making South Australia even more enticing for our key Chinese market.
The third round of our $2 million Experience Nature Tourism Fund is supporting 13 operators from across the state. Helping to showcase our natural landscapes and attract visitors from all over, supported projects include purchases of e-bikes, boats and vehicles for tours of national parks, as well as marketing support.
The Tasting Australia presented by Journey Beyond 2025 program has been revealed, with more than 150 events across the state set to showcase the worldclass people, produce, and places in SA. Tickets are now on sale, with program highlights including two Tasting Australia Airlines trips, Dining Gallery and Canteen lunch series in Town Square, and the new Learn sessions as part of the drinks program.
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Santos Tour Down Under will launch its inaugural Hall of Fame to recognise athletes, administrators, media representatives and officials who have made a significant contribution to the event since its inception in 1999. This is an exciting addition to the beloved event, which will leave a lasting legacy for years to come.
Last week I joined our Chair, David Koch and Tourism Industry Council of SA CEO, Shaun de Bruyn and Chair Siggi Frede at the 2024 TiCSA & ATEC Christmas Party. This was a great chance to reflect on the year and look towards 2025 and some of the opportunities in store for our industry.
