The South Australian Visitor Economy Sector Plan 2030

Plan now available

In August 2019, the SATC launched the South Australian Visitor Economy Sector Plan 2030.

This plan sets a bold ambition to grow our visitor economy to $12.8 billion by 2030 and generate an additional 16,000 jobs.

To grow our industry to new heights and achieve our 2030 targets we will focus on six priority areas: Marketing, Experience & Supply Development, Collaboration, Industry Capability, Leisure & Business Events and Promoting the Value of Tourism.

This plan has been developed with extensive consultation across industry and government. Almost 700 stakeholders had their say in the development of the plan which saw us travel 5,000 kilometres to conduct 37 hours of workshops at 16 locations across the state.

The story so far

The South Australian Tourism Plan 2020 was published in 2014 after extensive consultation with over 400 members of the tourism industry. At the time the South Australian Visitor Economy was worth $5.1 billion, and the plan set an ambitious target of reaching $8 billion by December 2020.

With 2020 fast approaching, the SATC has developed the South Australian Visitor Economy Sector Plan, setting the vision for the industry through to 2030. As with the previous plan, the new plan has been developed for industry, by industry.

Consultation

The consultation process to develop the plan ran over five months and saw over 500 people take part in 16 workshops and various meetings, in addition to almost 200 survey responses. From this substantial amount of feedback, a Draft Plan was produced which was available on this webpage throughout March 2019. 60 people or organisations provided feedback into the Draft Plan.

As a result, we have a strong plan that is representative of the broad range of stakeholders that make up the Visitor Economy and sets a clear vision for growth in the coming decade.
