Hybrid World Adelaide attracting brightest minds

South Australia's future-focused festival starts today, showcasing cutting edge technology at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

In its second year, Hybrid World Adelaide (HWA) adds to the state's busy events calendar.

Over the course of the five-day event, international and Australian experts will explore ideas about space tech, artificial intelligence, robotics, gaming, smart cities, agritech, augmented biology and more.

The predominantly free HWA family-oriented ‘interactive events’ program opens this weekend - tickets are selling fast for many of the hands-on workshops but there are still many free, ticketed and industry tech conference activities available.

South Australian Tourism Commission, Chief Executive, Rodney Harrex, welcomed the event which positions Adelaide as a meeting place for industry leaders, innovators and businesses.

"We're working hard to attract new major events and new thinking to the state that will draw increasing numbers of visitors and encourage private investment," said Harrex.

"Hybrid World Adelaide is about showcasing South Australia as a trailblazer and a hub in the field of technology innovation and opening up new connections and opportunities.

“We've seen firsthand that events like the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge foster innovation and jobs growth - I’m sure that Hybrid World Adelaide will provide similar opportunities for South Australia” Harrex said.

Hybrid World Adelaide Director, Amanda Duthie, said she was excited to open Hybrid World this weekend for interactive public events, a tech industry conference and a development lab.

“I encourage people with all interests - experienced or just tech curious - to get hands on with the free interactive events, play retro games on the Water Screen, fly a drone or hear from global leaders on our future in space…. All this will be on offer at Hybrid World Adelaide this year,” Duthie said.

Hybrid World Adelaide will take place from 20 - 24 July 2018. The event is expected to attract tens of thousands of participants locally and via digital channels.

Hybrid World Adelaide also runs concurrently with AvCon at the Convention Centre. For more information visit
