Rodney Harrex is the Chief Executive of the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC).

He has been in this role since April 2013 and is tasked with the objective of leading a dynamic, innovative and creative team at the SATC that makes South Australia a growing destination choice for international, domestic and South Australian travellers. This is achieved through implementing innovative marketing programs that engage consumers, and running events to drive visitation, enhancing our state’s positioning as a diverse and attractive place to visit. Since coming to the role, expenditure in South Australia’s visitor economy has grown 45% to $7.2 billion creating 5,000 new jobs.

Key areas of focus for Rodney have been increasing the recognition of the value of tourism and its contribution to employment in South Australia. Aviation capacity to the state has grown with the introduction of direct international flights from China Southern Airlines, Qatar Airways and the Dreamliner from Air New Zealand. Under Rodney’s leadership, new domestic routes have also been introduced, most notably the direct flights to Kangaroo Island from Adelaide. Rodney also spearheaded the development of the South Australian Tourism Plan 2020 and more recently, the 2030 vision for the sector. In his time as Chief Executive, South Australia has won the right to host many world-class events, conferences and exhibitions.

Rodney joined the SATC after a career with Tourism Australia, where his last position was General Manager, UK and Northern Europe after working in various international markets and Sydney.
