Adelaide’s creative industry takes centre stage from today as stars of the fashion world descend on the city to celebrate the opening of the Adelaide Fashion Festival presented by Mercedes-Benz Adelaide.

The five day fashion event kicks off tonight with a Colour Immersion Runway presented by artist and designer Tiff Manuell.

Part performance, part runway, the opening night event is a collaboration of South Australian creatives including Natalie Ivanov (Natalie and the Seams clothing design), Oisima (musician), Deni Jones (Cul-de-sac Creative, producer), Penelope Shum (choreography and dance) and more.

The show will feature voluminous dresses, sheer capes and swimwear all touched by the bright and bold palette that Tiff has made her trademark.

Tiff Manuell is one of South Australia’s industry leaders; her staple clutch handbags are stocked around the world, most notably at the Tate Modern galley in London.

Running from Wednesday 11 October to Sunday 15 October the Adelaide Fashion Festival will deliver 10 major runways along with a range of events celebrating local, national and international design and style, including long lunches, parties, masterclasses, markets and more.

Star guests include models Jennifer Hawkins, Megan Irwin and Akiima, and Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Edwina McCann.

South Australian design and style will be in the spotlight over the next five days and Tiff Manuell’s Colour Immersion Runway will be an incredible start to the festival.

The thing I love about the Adelaide Fashion Festival is the fact you can be completely blown away by events that deliver way above expectation.

Not only does it attract interstate visitors to South Australia, the fashion festival gives talented local designers another reason to stay in Adelaide and pursue their international dreams from their home-town.

Great examples of this are Paul Vasileff, who was this year named Young Australian of the Year after impressing Paris and the rest of the world, and Tiff Manuell whose work is now stocked in the United Kingdom, United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia.

The State Government is committed to bringing new events and festivals to the state and growing our existing events, all aimed at bringing more visitors to our state and shining the spotlight on South Australia.

The Adelaide Fashion Festival is a great example of an event that is helping put South Australia on the world fashion map in terms of visibility and helping promote our local talented designers, brands and businesses.

Quotes attributable to Chris Kontos, Creative Director, Adelaide Fashion Festival
In our third year running the Adelaide Fashion Festival we are so excited to present so many new events and elements; from the AFF X White Marquee Grounds where you can enjoy great food and wine to the inaugural Vogue Festival, AFF17 is unlike any event before it.

Our local fashion industry is strengthening every day, and we’ve seen so many achievements by our designers over the past 12 months, including Tiff Manuell, from media coverage and red-carpet moments to business growth and increased stockists.

We’re really proud to present this program to the public – there is an event that is accessible to everyone, because that’s what fashion is. It’s a part of day-to-day life which should be celebrated and enjoyed, and Adelaide is the perfect place to do that.
