16 April 2015
Williamstown has been named the winner of the 2015 Santos Tour Down Under Best Dressed Town Competition.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said more than 70 towns participated in the competition and they added a huge amount of atmosphere to the event.
The Williamstown community will receive a signed jersey and $3000 from Santos. Signs will also be put up in town to signify the win.
“The residents of Williamstown did an amazing job this year with the entire community contributing to the overall look and feel of the town,” Mr Bignell said.
“The Santos Best Dressed Town Competition is a great way for South Australian communities, businesses, property owners and households to be a part of the excitement of the Santos Tour Down Under.”
Second prize of $1000 was awarded to Norwood and third prize of $500 to Macclesfield.
“We can’t wait to see what the communities will do in 2016 hot off of the back of some fierce competition this year.”
Santos Manager Community and Corporate Responsibility, John Phalen, said Santos was delighted to be involved with the competition and to see the massive ground swell of support from the local communities.
“Community involvement plays such a big part in the overall success of the Santos Tour Down Under and to see the extent to which some of the towns go to for the event is brilliant.
“It creates real excitement for the spectators and riders when they see the amazing efforts put in place by the towns.”
The Santos Best Dressed Town Competition has been a part of the Santos Tour Down Under since 1999 and has grown from strength to strength with a record 71 nominations this year.
The 2016 Santos Tour Down Under will be held 17 – 24 January in Adelaide and regional South Australia. Race routes will be launched over the coming months.
