For the first time in almost 20 years, the AFL Draft will be held in Adelaide, with the next generation of players chosen in front of a national audience of passionate football fans.

Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said along with the players vying for selection, about 350 AFL officials and executives, coaches, draftees and AFL media, will also be in Adelaide.

“The 2015 NAB Draft is not just for the players and the clubs, but for fans as well. I hope to see a couple of thousand attend the Draft to see how their club performs and who the future stars of the sport will be”, Mr Bignell said.

“This is only the second time Adelaide has hosted the Draft. The last time we hosted – in 1997 – saw the drafting of champions including Luke Power, Chad Cornes and Adam Goodes.”

The Draft will be held at the Convention Centre and 2000 members of the local football community, AFL Club members and fans are expected to attend.

‘The decision to have the Draft in Adelaide at the Convention Centre further reinforces the State Government’s investment in the Riverbank Precinct,” Mr Bignell said.

“Adelaide Oval is now recognised as one of the best stadiums in the country and this has obviously played a key part in Adelaide being chosen as well.”

AFL chief executive Gill McLachlan said it was exciting to be moving the NAB AFL Draft to Adelaide.

“I thank the State Government for its continued support of the AFL and for its commitment to stage the 2015 Draft,” Mr McLachlan said.

“The nature of the event allows us to review the location every few years and it is exciting that another city, and another market of fans, will be able to witness the NAB AFL Draft live.

“The AFL industry looks forward to descending on the great city of Adelaide in November when we welcome the next wave of talented footballers into the 18 clubs.”

The AFL will stage supporting events in the days leading up to the Draft including the CEO’s conference, media managers conference, coaching clinics and NAB AFL Auskick clinic.

Fans from across Australia will be able to watch the Draft live on FOX FOOTY or streamed live on AFL.com.au
