Tasting Australia program continues to grow

Foodies are set to feast on a jam-packed Tasting Australia presented by Thomas Foods, with an additional 10 exciting events in Adelaide and regional South Australia added to the program.

Joining an established program of more than 75 events encouraging festival-goers to eat, drink, think and participate, the latest offerings celebrate the produce behind the state’s culinary reputation.

Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell said many of the latest Tasting Australia events invited patrons to celebrate top local chefs and experience South Australia’s love of markets.

“South Australia is a culinary haven for food-lovers and there is no place more synonymous with fresh local produce than the Adelaide Central Market,” Mr Bignell said.

“Continuing the state’s culture of markets The Market Shed on Holland, the new kid on the market scene, showcases the growing phenomenon of organic, bio-dynamic produce.

“Tasting Australia’s market-based events are an opportunity for locals and visitors to explore the iconic places helping to build South Australia’s growing reputation as the food and wine capital of Australia.”

New events held at the Adelaide Central Market include the Fine Food Forage, where patrons are invited on a self-guided journey through the market stalls, and the Autumn Harvest Party, a Spanish fiesta celebrating seasonal produce and the best of South Australia’s seafood.

Local cooking heroes Callum Hann and Themis Chryssidis from Sprout will join SchuAm Pork producers Damien Amery and Daniel Schuster for the Tasting SchuAm Pork event where foodies can interact with the farmers and taste the award-winning meat.

“Tasting Australia is not just a celebration of food and the Beer vs. Wine Degustation Dinner in the Barossa is an entertaining addition for any beer or wine enthusiast,” Mr Bignell said.

“Billed as the battle of the bottle, each course of local and seasonal food will be paired with a wine and craft beer as the debate flows not only between the bottles but also between the wine maker and brewer.”

Additional events in the Tasting Australia program include Pure and Simple: Food in Granny’s Day, Producer Tastings, Floating Melodies – Food Glorious Food, Brew @ the Prancing Pony Brewery and Elixir of Autumn.

Tasting Australia presented by Thomas Foods will run from 27 April to 4 May 2014.
