South Australians encouraged to ‘explore more’ on Kangaroo Island

The close proximity of Kangaroo Island, its wildlife and food and wine adventures will be promoted in a new commercial to be released in Adelaide cinemas and on television until March and again later this year.

Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said the new ‘Set a course for Kangaroo Island’ commercial features the journey to Kangaroo Island and the beautiful experiences the region has to offer.

“The new ad showcases the Island through the eyes of a group of friends who embark on a journey to the island, connect with each other, the landscape and the local characters they meet,” Mr Bignell said.

“The commercial highlights how the region’s diverse tourism experiences are full of exploration and self-discovery, while creature comforts, famous food and wine, and secluded beaches make the Island a treasure trove of indulgence.”

Set to the track ‘surf song’ by Adelaide band Mistress, the ad opens with a shot of Kangaroo Island with the caption ‘all aboard for Kangaroo Island’.

It captures the pristine wildlife including birds of prey at Raptor Domain, the many food and wine experiences including wine tasting and playing golf at Dudley Wines cellar door, visiting Marron Farm, Island Pure and Clifford’s Honey Farm.

The Kangaroo Island experience continues as the group of friends visit Stokes Bay, Vivonne Bay, Pennington Bay, and Seal Bay. The ad closes to the voice-over ‘set a course for Kangaroo Island’ and the Best Backyard tag-line ‘The magic’s on your doorstep, visit sealink.com.au’.

Mr Bignell said the campaign, produced in partnership with Sealink, aims to increase South Australians’ awareness of Kangaroo Island and help boost intrastate visits to the region.

“This co-operative campaign will be used to remind South Australians that Kangaroo Island is an accessible holiday location and the perfect place to reconnect with the people and experiences important to you.”

The commercial is part of the South Australian Tourism Commission’s successful Best Backyard campaign encouraging South Australians to holiday in their own backyard.

It will appear in cinema until 7 March, and on major television networks between 15 February and 7 March and again in May and June.
