South Australian Tourism Commission and South Australian Motor Sport Board Integration

01 July 2015

It is with great pleasure that the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) welcomes the South Australian Motor Sport Board (SAMSB) to the broader SATC team.

In July 2014, the Premier announced a large scale reform of the Government’s 429 boards and committees and the SAMSB was identified as a Board to be abolished and its functions were to be transitioned into the SATC. The Bill for this has now been proclaimed by the Governor, with the amendments effective July 1, 2015.

The SAMSB team members will form the valued Motor Sport Group within the SATC. Mr. Mark Warren will be the Director, Motor Sport Group and lead The Motor Sport Group within the SATC. Mr. Warren will be a valuable member of the SATC executive team and report directly to the SATC Chief Executive, Rodney Harrex. The SAMSB Chair, Mr. Andy Ford, has also been appointed as a SATC Board Director.

Events, both leisure and business, are integral to our State’s Tourism Strategy. Major leisure events, such as the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, are not only able to showcase our State as a unique destination, they attract visitors, spectators and event participants as well as create jobs, increase spend and the time visitors stay in our state, all contributing to significant economic impact.

The Clipsal 500 Adelaide has always complemented other key South Australian events managed and supported by Events South Australia, such as the Santos Tour Down Under, Tasting Australia and the Christmas Pageant.

Planning is well underway for another exciting Clipsal 500 Adelaide in 2016, continuing the event’s reputation for innovative motorsport, action-packed entertainment and awesome concert line-up.
