More than 15,000 people from 145 countries entered a once in a lifetime competition to see Liverpool FC take on Adelaide United.

Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell today announced the lucky winner of the Ultimate Away Goal competition was Antti Suominen, from Finland.

Mr Suominen will receive two flights from Finland to South Australia, five nights’ accommodation, and a trip to Kangaroo Island and the Barossa.

He will receive two tickets to see Liverpool FC play Adelaide United at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval as part of their 2015 pre-season tour on July 20.

“The Ultimate Away Goal competition created incredible interest in South Australia from all over the world,” Mr Bignell said.

“We had 15,084 entries which proves hosting international sporting events is a fantastic way of showcasing our state to a global audience.

“I am sure Antti will be blown away by what South Australia has to offer.”

Antti, who has never been to Australia, said he had supported Liverpool FC for 30 years.

“I entered the competition because it was a great prize, I have never been to Adelaide and I am looking forward to seeing the sights in South Australia and of course the opportunity to see Liverpool FC play live.”

“I will bring my wife with me and we can enjoy some of the wonderful wine you have.”

The exhibition match is expected to attract more than 10,000 people from interstate and overseas.

“These visitors will inject over $5 million into our economy as they spend time in our hotels, restaurants and visit other attractions in South Australia,” Mr Bignell said.

Liverpool FC is one of the world’s most historic and famous football clubs having won 18 League Titles, seven FA Cups, eight League Cups, five European Cups, three UEFA Cups, three European Super Cups and 15 Charity Shields.
