Farrar returns to Adelaide
04 January 2013
Race organisers have welcomed confirmation from the Garmin-Sharp team that headline sprinter Tyler Farrar is heading to Adelaide this month.
Farrar is making a comeback to racing after being forced to cut short his 2012 season when he sustained concussion in a crash during the Tour of Britain in September.
“Tyler’s impressive 2012 season included stage wins at the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, the Tour of Utah and the Giro d’Italia,” said Mike Turtur.
Farrar, who made his Santos Tour Down Under debut in 2011, also had an impressive season in 2010 with two stage wins each in the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España. He also placed in the top three in two Tour de France stages despite a broken wrist and knee injury that saw him withdraw midway through the event.
Mike Turtur says he is looking forward to welcoming the stars of world cycling to South Australia to compete in the 15th Santos Tour Down Under.
“The 2013 race includes new challenges for our elite cyclists who will put on a great show for fans from Australia and around the world,” he said.
The 2013 Santos Tour Down Under will be held in Adelaide and regional South Australia from 20 to 27 January 2013.
