With just 44 sleeps until the 2015 Credit Union Christmas Pageant, two magical new floats will be unveiled today.
This year’s Pageant will be officially launched at 11.30 this morning in Rundle Mall, with Christmas Puppy and Lilly Rose unveiled as the new additions for the November 14 event.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said it was exciting to be back in Rundle Mall for today’s launch, and to provide families with some extra school holiday entertainment.
“The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is in its 83rd year, and has become known around the world as the traditional start of the Christmas season in South Australia,” he said.
“The theme of this year’s Pageant is Everybody’s a Star, with around 300,000 people expected to line the streets of Adelaide on November 14 to welcome Father Christmas to town.”
The Pageant’s Event Manager Brian Gilbertson said the theme recognised that everyone involved helps to make the event such a success.
“On the day there are many performers who are the stars of the Pageant, but without the make-up artists, marshals, drivers, cameras, and the people lining the streets, the Pageant wouldn’t be the same,” he said.
“Christmas Puppy and Lilly Rose are two new larger than life characters which we hope will become iconic faces of the event alongside Bruto, Toby Toy Truck, Pogo, and Billy Bulldozer.”
Credit Union Christmas Pageant Company Chair Robert Keogh said the credit unions were once again looking forward to the big day in November, as they celebrate 20 years of sponsoring the event.
“Since 1996, we have contributed millions of dollars in sponsorship and thousands and thousands of hours to support this iconic South Australian event,” he said.
“Our investment goes far beyond the people who perform on Pageant Day. Our staff volunteer to help at the Pageant workshop, are involved with launch activities, visit schools, libraries and hospitals. This is a 365 day commitment to the community.”
The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by the South Australian Tourism Commission on behalf of the State Government, and is proudly sponsored by People’s Choice Credit Union, Beyond Bank Australia, Credit Union SA and Police Credit Union.
