The long anticipated wait for Father Christmas will finally be over for hundreds of thousands of children when the Credit Union Christmas Pageant rolls into town tomorrow.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said more than 320,000 excited spectators are expected to line city streets to be part of the world’s biggest parade.
“This tradition has been the official start of the Christmas season since 1933,” Mr Bignell said.
“This year’s event celebrates the theme Everybody’s a Star and we have four new floats - Lilly-Rose, Christmas Puppy, The List Keeper and The Christmas Star. For the first time, viewers from all over Australia will be able to watch the event live on GEM from 11am and local pageant fans can watch it on Channel Nine from 10.30am.”
Virgin Australia is also currently showcasing eight minutes of Pageant footage as part of its inflight entertainment.
Credit Union Pageant Company Chair Robert Keogh said four credit unions had worked together to sponsor the event.
“This year the credit unions celebrate 20 years as naming rights sponsors,” Mr Keogh said.
“We’re proud to be part of making the magic happen and bringing the Pageant to the community, creating ongoing memories of this special day for all generations.”
The official start of the Credit Union Christmas Pageant will begin at South Terrace at 9.30am. Father Christmas will arrive at David Jones on North Terrace at 11.20am.
Mr Bignell said everyone attending the Pageant is encouraged to travel by bus, tram or train.
“Extra bus, tram and train services will operate throughout the metropolitan area on Saturday morning to get families to the Pageant with plenty of time to spare,” he said. For more information visit the Adelaide Metro website at www.adelaidemetro.com.au or phone the Infoline on 1300 311 108.
