The 2015 Adelaide Fashion Festival presented by Mercedes-Benz Adelaide begins today,
kick-starting four days of high-end fashion, design, food, wine and entertainment like never
before seen in Adelaide.
To mark the Festival’s commencement, Premier Jay Weatherill has presented the inaugural
Premier’s Design Award to young designer Sophia McMahon at today’s sold out Ready to
Wear runway event, showcasing some of Adelaide’s best young designers.
“Whilst the competition was tough, Sophia stood out amongst her peers due to her dedication,
passion and well rounded skills in design, pattern and garment development,” Mr Weatherill
“Sophia will now undertake a 12 month mentoring program, exposing her to many aspects of
the fashion industry from sourcing textiles, manufacturing, planning, marketing and public
“Sophia, who was mentored by Liza Emanuele during the competition, is working towards
having her own label, so hopefully this award will give her design career a boost.”
