Women’s cycling, a new participation event and the popular Prospect street party will provide
plenty of options for Santos Tour Down Under fans today.

Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said while there was no men’s racing today - with riders resting
in preparation for Hostworks Stage 1 tomorrow - there was still lots of cycling-related activity
happening around town.

“For those avid cycling spectators, today is the perfect opportunity to see the best female
riders at the Santos Women’s Tour, which will compete in Stage 3 at Lyndoch,” he said.

“This is the third of four days of competition for the women’s teams and no doubt they will be
fighting aggressively to secure the lead coming into the final stage.

“In a huge coup for South Australia, the 2016 Santos Women’s Tour has been granted
international status by the international cycling governing body, UCI.

“It also remains part of Cycling Australia’s Subaru National Road Series meaning the NRS
teams are racing for points but against an even more competitive, international field.

“There will be lots of challenges along the 100.8km track with King of the Mountain climbs at
Yetti Road near the Whispering Wall at Williamstown, and sprints along Barossa Valley Way at
Lyndoch.

“In another first for the event, today also heralds the inaugural Norton Summit Time Trial that
will be held from 10am.

“Norton Summit is renowned as one of the most challenging and attempted climbs in South
Australia and for the first time is part of the Santos Tour Down Under race this year, and now
amateur cyclists can really test their ability.

“This is a new addition to the Santos Festival of Cycling program that caters to those riders
who want to push themselves even more and compare their time against the champions.

“Off track, the much-loved Tourrific Prospect street party is set to be the biggest ever with an
extended kids’ zone featuring a city beach and the Loopy Kids ride.

“Food, wine, music, dancing, buskers and a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest
Ukelele ensemble will unfold along Prospect Road from 5pm to 11pm.”
