Preparations for January’s Santos Tour Down Under are underway, with construction of the Adelaide City Council Tour Village starting today.
Each year, Victoria Square operates as the official hub for international athletes of the TDU, as well as hosting a cycling exhibition and demonstration area for spectators, making it the biggest bike expo in Australia.
With less than 25 days to go till South Australia’s largest spectator sporting event, organisers are working to complete the Village which will welcome around 50,000 visitors between January 14 -22.

It is less than a month until the first official event of the international cycling calendar – the Santos Tour Down under. The Adelaide City Council Tour Village will play home to international superstars like Peter Sagan and his Bora-Hansgrohe team mates, as well as Esteban Chaves and Orica-BikeExchange.
During the eight days of the event, more than 50,000 people are expected to visit the Tour Village and Bike Expo which provides a glimpse into some of the most world’s most prestigious teams and riders.
The 2017 TDU is set to keep to its Best Sporting Event reputation – with the State Government recently announcing entertainment on and off the track, including performances from Birds of Tokyo and DJ Havana Brown.
The State Government has invested $70 million in additional tourism funding to promote SA and attract major events. This is in addition to the $6 million specifically for the TDU.
The Tour Village will be open to the public from 14 January 2017 – 22 January 2017.
