The first of many world-class riders has arrived in Adelaide for the annual Australian International 3 Day Event later this month.

Tourism Minister Leon Bignell welcomed the arrival of top UK rider, Alice Dunsdon to Adelaide who is the first rider to bring her own horse to the prestigious event from the Northern Hemisphere.

“This will be a real challenge for Alice as she’s aiming to become the first rider in the world to compete in all six of the ‘pro-tour’ FEI Classic Series competitions on the same horse,” Mr Bignell said.

“This is just one of a number of ‘firsts’ for this year’s event which will be again be held in the eastern parklands in the heart of the city from November 19-22,” Mr Bignell said.

“Highly acclaimed Olympic and World Equestrian Games course designer Mike EtheringtonSmith has also been appointed as course designer this year.

“Once again we’ll be able to see the very best horses and their riders in action competing for the biggest prize pool ever in the southern hemisphere right on the doorstep of the CBD.

“I can’t think of anywhere else in the world where you can see world class eventing close-up, from the stamina of the cross country and showjumping events through to the precision of the dressage competition.

“This year we will again see all of these tough individual disciplines on display, as well as welcoming the Australian Equestrian Grand Final to the program for the first time.

“Last year’s event attracted 22,500 spectators across four days of competition and I look forward to another year of strong attendances.

“The event also injected more than $7 million into our economy,” Mr Bignell said.

“There are plenty of opportunities for spectators to enjoy off-course activities including the popular ‘Polo in the Park’ on the Friday night, celebrity course walks, corporate hospitality, themed bars, master classes and a special event for younger horse enthusiasts.

“The State Government, through Events South Australia, has been a proud supporter of the of the Australian International 3 Day Even since it began,” Mr Bignell said.
