World-class riders and horses will converge on Adelaide’s eastern parklands tomorrow for the annual Australian International 3 Day Event.
German Olympic champion Dirk Schrade headlines the event, which begins with two days of dressage before the cross country and showjumping disciplines at the weekend.
Friday night will also see the return of the popular Grant Burge Wines Polo in the Park.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell today told State Parliament that South Australia would be well represented with Atlanta Olympics gold medalist Wendy Schaeffer and Beijing Olympics bronze medalist Megan Jones among the stars competing this year.
“Some of the world’s best riders will be in action, along with the next generation of stars who will be out to prove they have what it takes to compete at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016,” he said.”
“There’s nowhere else in the world where an equestrian event of this calibre takes place in the heart of a major city.
“Polo in the Park will also add to the carnival atmosphere on Friday night, with premium food and wine, a live commentary of the polo, and Fashions on the Field judged by renowned local designer Liza Emanuele.
“Throughout the event there’ll be plenty of off-course activities for spectators including food vans, fun for the children, and shopping opportunities,” he said.
Mr Bignell said the State Government, through Events South Australia, had been a proud supporter of the Australian International 3 Day Event since it began.
“Around 23,000 attended last year’s Australian International 3 Day Event in the eastern parklands, and we look forward to seeing another strong crowd back in the heart of the city this year,” he said.
The Australian International 3 Day Event will take place from tomorrow until Sunday.
