Registrations close today for recreational cyclists to join this year’s Bupa Challenge Tour presented by The Advertiser – from Norwood to Campbelltown – as part of the 2017 Santos Tour Down Under.
With four different starts in the event, cyclists have the option to ride the full race distance of 157.5km or a shorter challenge with ride starts at Birdwood (111km), Mt Pleasant (58km) and Norwood (25km).
Acting Minister for Tourism Susan Close said the Bupa Challenge Tour provided recreational cyclists with the chance to experience the Santos Tour Down Under by bike, just like the professionals.
“I encourage locals and those planning on visiting to pull on their lycra and ride on the same Bupa Stage 4 route as the pros – pedalling over 157 kilometres from Norwood through the Adelaide Hills and finishing in Campbelltown.
“Riders get to be involved in the largest UCI cycling event outside of Europe and will travel through picturesque Adelaide Hills scenery, while spectators can enjoy abundant opportunities to sample local delights along the way.”
Race Director Mike Turtur said recreational cyclists travelled from across the globe to participate in last year’s event, including entries from New Zealand, the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
“The ride is for a great cause, with participants nominating to Ride for a Reason raising much needed funds for the event’s official charity – the Cancer Council SA.”
There are also opportunities for the whole family to get on their bikes and ride on the same track as the professionals with events including the Bupa Family Ride and Bupa Mini Tour for Kids.
“The Bupa Family Ride allows families to enjoy laps of a professional cycling track whilst the Bupa Mini Tour for Kids gives budding six to 12 year old cyclists a chance to take on the track just hours before the professionals,” said Mike Turtur.
Registrations for the Bupa Challenge Tour, Bupa Family Ride and Bupa Mini Tour for Kids close today (Wednesday 11 January 2017) at 5pm. To register visit www.tourdownunder.com.au.
This is your last chance to purchase tickets to the Legends’ Night Dinner and Ladies Day on Tour too!
