It’s an extraordinary time for tourism operators in South Australia and now our regional tourism groups are being urged to apply for additional marketing funding.

Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said the Regional Consumer Cooperative Marketing Fund for South Australia was one of many State Government initiatives to drive tourism growth.

“The State Government announced this week we are making an unprecedented investment in tourism with a funding package of $35 million over two years to promote key international and domestic markets,” Mr Bignell said.

“Our regions are incredibly important for the state’s tourism industry – 44 per cent of the visitor expenditure in South Australia occurs outside of Adelaide,” Mr Bignell said.

“This $35 million investment will greatly benefit operators and other small businesses, while creating and supporting hundreds of jobs.”

Each of South Australia’s 11 regions is eligible to apply for up to $20,000 and the funding must be matched and committed to marketing activities.

“Through tourism, we can create massive opportunities for many businesses across a wide range of sectors from leisure and business events, the arts, food and wine, transport and education,” Mr Bignell said.

“The State Government’s goal for the visitor economy is to grow it from $5.2 billion to $8 billion. This increase would create a further 10,000 jobs throughout the state in the tourism sector."

“This is in addition to the 54,000 who are currently directly and indirectly employed in the industry.”

Adelaide Hills Tourism, Tourism Barossa Inc, RDA Yorke and Mid North (for the Clare Valley), RDA Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula, Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism, Flinders Ranges Outback SA Tourism, Tourism Kangaroo Island, South East Local Government Association, Murraylands Tourism Partnership,  Destination Riverland and Yorke Peninsula Tourism are all encouraged to apply.

Applications can be made for the full $20,000 designated for the region, or for smaller amounts (with a minimum of $5000) over a number of applications to the maximum $20,000.

Applications can be made any time until March 2016. For more information email:
