What is Event Bidding?

Events South Australia strategically identifies and researches opportunities to attract and/or develop new and existing events, and actively bids or negotiates for targeted events.

South Australia’s world-class infrastructure, beautiful landscapes and outstanding fresh produce and hospitality, together with a lively, supportive community, are just a few of the reasons the state is successful in many of its bid applications for nationally and internationally significant events.

Event bidding explained

The event bidding process begins when a highly sought-after event invites potential host cities to register their interest.

The bidding process is often highly competitive and several cities will put forward detailed proposals outlining why their region would be best suited, including details such as infrastructure, climate, culture and community support.

A board or organising committee representing the event will then evaluate these bids and select the candidate which proves to be most compatible, and in many cases surpasses their requirements.

Strategic approach

Events South Australia takes a strategic approach towards the development of the State’s event calendar. It seeks to grow and develop a core listing of regularly occurring managed and sponsored events, which significantly add to the brand of the State. It endeavours to compliment this with one-off events, typically major profile or mass participation, to ensure a balance of activity across the year, as well as the utilisation of event venue infrastructure, facilities and services.

Events provide a major source of community spirit and pride in South Australia, often add to the health of the community, and also generate hundreds of millions of dollars worth of media exposure to the world and help brand the region.

Before committing to a bid application, Events South Australia ensures that the event will sit within the South Australian Tourism Commission’s (SATC) Strategic Plans which are closely linked with national and state 2020 strategies, as well as Regional Destination Action Plans.
