About the SATC Board
THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN TOURISM COMMISSION BOARD
Under the South Australian Tourism Commission Act 1993, a Board of Directors was
established as the governing body of the Commission.
The board consists of not less than 7 and not more than 10 directors and is
subject to control and direction by the Minister.
Each financial year the board enters into a performance agreement with the
Minister covering areas such as tourism policy and planning, market share,
industry sustainability, advocacy, visibility, financial management and
performance measurement.
The board meets at least once a month and currently comprises:

Ms Jane Jeffreys
Jane Jeffreys is an experienced Company Director and Managing Director of Jane Jeffreys Consulting, a successful Management Consulting firm based in Adelaide, South Australia. The business undertakes Organisation Reviews, Strategic Planning, Board & Executive Performance Reviews, and Mentoring services.
She works principally with Boards and Senior Executives in addressing issues of strategic relevance to the success of their organisation.
Jane has extensive executive and consulting experience in business working with the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
Jane’s key areas of expertise include the ability to identify and focus on the critical issues, the ability to find innovative and creative solutions, outstanding communication skills and established business networks. She is an experienced Board Member, strategic thinker, and has the confidence to challenge conventional wisdom.
Current Board appointments include Chair of the award winning Adelaide Convention Centre, Chair of the South Australian Tourism Commission, Chair of the Elderly Citizens Homes Inc., and Chair of Gaming Care.
Previous Directorships include Director Tourism Australia, Chairman St Peters Collegiate Girls School, Member Independent Gambling Authority, Chairman Come Out Festival, Director Adelaide Convention and Tourism Authority, Director Le Cordon Bleu Academic Board, Director Port Adelaide Football Club and Chairman Patch Theatre Company.
Jane is highly regarded by clients and colleagues for the wealth of experience and intelligence she brings from over 30 years working with a broad range of organisations at Executive, CEO and Board level.
Jane is Fellow Australian Institute of Company Directors, Fellow Australian Institute of Management; and Fellow Australian Human Resources Institute.

Mr Jeff Ellison
Jeff is the Managing Director of the SeaLink Travel Group, a position he has held since 1997. Jeff is a Chartered Accountant and joined SeaLink following 8 years in private practice. Jeff has been instrumental in the development of SeaLink from a ferry and day tour operator to a diversified tourism and transport operator with interests in ferries in South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland, Coach Charter and Day Tours, Retail Travel Agencies in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne, Adventure Centre at Vivonne Bay on Kangaroo Island and Information Technology. The SeaLink Travel Group now provides both retail and wholesale travel packages for many sectors of the industry including holiday travel and event promotion.
The company is now considered the largest locally owned travel and tourism operator in South Australia, employing over 700 people and has won a host of awards as a major tourism and transport operator.
Jeff has a passion for Information Technology and has been instrumental in the development of a customised reservations system solution that has attracted other tourism operators to implement the software.
Jeff has a strong appreciation of the value of marketing and the need to invest in “selling” South Australia. This has enabled the SeaLink Travel Group to grow into one of the top 100 companies in South Australia.
Jeff currently sits on the following Boards:

Mr Brian Hayes QC
Mr Hayes has over the last 40 years been involved as a principal, in major reviews of environmental, heritage and land use planning and other legislation and has acted as consultant to Federal, State and Local Governments on the drafting of environmental land use planning legislation and local government legislation.
He was a member of the Course Advisory Board of the University of South Australia which advises the Faculty on planning and environmental policy, law and management courses provided by the University. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of South Australia and has been a part-time lecturer in planning law continuously for 35 years.
As President of the South Australian Bar Association, Mr Hayes has implemented a reader’s course for new members of the Bar. His consultancies have included devising civil and criminal enforcement systems to implement law relating to pollution control, management and regulation.
In 1991 Mr Hayes established the consultancy of IELC – Australia which is a network of legal specialists from Australia, the USA, Europe and the UK and India.
He established the SA Chapter of the Australia India Business council in 2004 and was its first President and then the National Chairman of the AIBC. He has led business delegations to India with the Premier of SA and two Federal Government trade delegations and has been involved over the last twelve years in building bilateral trade between Australia and India. In 2008 he was appointed the Premier of South Australia’s Special Envoy to India to develop bilateral trade and business between South Australia and India and to assist South Australian companies to export and import.

Mr Ian Horne
Ian Horne is one of South Australia’s most experienced industry advocates and association executives.
Ian has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Adelaide with original qualifications and experience in industrial relations.
Ian first joined the Australian Hotels Association (SA) in late 1983 and established their successful Group Training Scheme, then in 1986 was appointed CEO of the AHA|SA, a position he held for
the next 12 years. During this time, Ian oversaw the achieving of legislation for and successful introduction of gaming machines into hotels in 1994, a move that has clearly reinvigorated the industry to the point where SA now boasts some of the best hotels and pubs in Australia.
In 1998, Ian became the Executive Director of the Motor Trade Association in SA representing the
business interests of the retail motor industry and returned to the AHA|SA as CEO in September of
2005.
Along with his managerial roles at the MTA and the AHA, Ian has been the Vice Chair, Treasurer
and Board Member of the Adelaide Convention and Tourism Authority, a director of Host Plus
Superannuation and many advisory and community based boards and committees. In 2006 he
was appointed to the board of the South Australian Tourism Commission.

Ms Kris Lloyd
Kris Lloyd is CEO and Head cheese maker of Woodside Cheese Wrights.
Woodside Cheese Wrights is a specialist cheese maker of goat and cow cheeses,
producing fresh, white mould and matured cheeses. Production is around 70 Tonne per annum with distribution throughout Australia and export to the Phillipines.
Kris has been making cheese for around 14 years.
In 2004 Kris established the South Australian Specialist Cheese Association “Cheese SA” to promote specialty cheese and introduce industry driven education and training programs in South Australia. Kris is currently the Chair of the association. Kris is also the Director and Founder of CheeseFest, Australian Alfresco Cheese Festival designed to raise awareness of specialty cheese and celebrate the Cheese Maker. CheeseFest has grown since the first festival in 2002 to be a nationally recognised event and 2011 saw CheeseFest run over 2 days attracting in excess of 8000 visitors. Kris has a regular segment on Radio Adelaide discussing all aspects of cheese.
In 2010 Kris was the South Australian winner in the Telstra Business Women's Award in the Commonwealth Bank Business Owner category and The Nokia Business Innovation Award Catergory, she went on to win the 2010 Telstra Business Womens National Award for Business Innovation. 2011 Kris was awarded the Adelaide Food Legend award for her commitment to the South Australian food industry.

Mr Michael Tilley BA, FCA
Michael is Chairman of Terrain Capital Ltd and was previously the Managing Director responsible for providing corporate advisory and investment banking services for public and private companies within Australia and overseas.
He has worked in the accounting and finance industries for more than 40 years and has a broad range of senior advisory and project management experience in all facets of corporate finance.
Michael is a Director of Vision Super Pty Ltd, Yarra Valley Water, the South Australian Tourism Commission, Oliver Hume Australia Ltd, and Chair of Free Eyre Ltd.

Ms Lyn Tuit
Lyn Tuit is based in Sydney where she is a marketing and public relations’ consultant.
Since her return to Australia in 2007, she has worked for Momentum2 looking after projects for Qantas and National Geographic in addition to working for other clients such as France Televisions, One Planet, GTI and ATS Pacific Fiji.
She was formally the Regional Manager, Southern Europe for the South Australian Tourism Commission, based in Paris. Her responsibilities included both marketing and public relations in France, Italy and Spain. Lyn also worked for the Agent General of South Australia's London office throughout this period handling ministerial visits, wine promotions and trade related matters.
Prior to this eleven year appointment with the Commission, she was employed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as Director Australia France Foundation, First Secretary Cultural Relations and Public Affairs at the Australian Embassy in Paris. In this diplomatic role, she was involved in negotiating bilateral agreements in areas such as the arts and sport; she managed the Australian government's cultural program in France, looked after corporate sponsorship and oversaw the cultural relations and public affairs' offices.
Her experience in the arts in South Australia includes a period as General Manager, State Theatre Company of South Australia, General Manager, Starlight Express and Company Manager for the tour of the Theatre des Jeunes Années for the Adelaide Festival of Arts. She is currently Vice President of the Alliance Française.
Ms Jan Turbill
Marketing and Advertising
30 years experience in marketing and advertising industries in Adelaide and Perth. Wide range of knowledge of advertising, direct marketing, market research, market planning, facilitation of marketing workshops, marketing and communication strategy, CRM programs, digital strategies, sales promotions, and public relations strategies. Reputation for being an exceptional marketing strategist. A past full member of the Australian Marketing Institute.
Marketing Research
12 years experience in qualitative and diagnostic research as a moderator and quantitative research methods including on-line, face-to-face, business-to-business, omnibus studies, concept testing, internal staff research and coaching, and mystery shopping. Full member of the Australian Market and Social Research Society. Business owner of Intuito Market Research a full service market research consultancy in Adelaide. Extensive annual research work for the Thoroughbred Racing Industry.
Board Director Experience
Currently a member of the Scouts Australia (SA Branch) Executive Committee, Sight for All Board, Salvation Army Fundraising Committee and listed on the Premier’s Women’s Directory. Previously a member of the South Australian Motorsport Board (Clipsal 500), Adelaide Convention Centre, Australian Major Events, Racing Industry Development Authority, Australian Grand Prix Board, National Heart Foundation Fundraising Board, Chairman of Unibooks Pty Ltd (University of Adelaide Union bookshop). Extensive knowledge of event marketing, tourism, industry development, event and sporting bodies (3 codes of racing, football and motor racing), commerce and business, marketing and retail.
Knowledge of Tourism and Event Tourism
Board experience in event and conference tourism with 12 years on the South Australian Motorsport Board, 2 years prior to this on the Australian Grand Prix Board, six years on the Australian Major Events Board, two years on the Adelaide Convention Centre Board and six years on the Racing Industry Development Authority (responsible for all three racing codes and their major events) together with a working relationship for 20 years with SeaLink and other tourist attractions such as Holdfast Shores, City of Holdfast Bay, the Adelaide Zoo, Great Southern Railways, Adelaide Cup, Oakbank Racing Carnival and KI Cup and the Art Gallery of South Australia.
